Q + A

Do I have to stay on the island?

No, staying on the island is not required, though we highly recommend it to get the full Bald Head Island experience! If you prefer to stay off the island, check the travel section for hotel options in Southport.

Am I allowed to bring a guest to the wedding?

Your invitation will indicate whether you have a plus one. The names listed on the save the date and wedding invitation envelopes reflect who is invited. If your invitation is addressed solely to you, then a plus one is not included. When you RSVP, you will be able to respond for yourself and anyone in your invited party. If you’re unsure, please reach out to the bride or groom!

Can we bring our kids?

While we understand that many guests may want to turn their trip to Bald Head Island into a family vacation, please note that children are not invited to the wedding festivities, with the exception of immediate family members. We encourage you to enjoy the island with your little ones outside of the wedding events!

Can I purchase groceries and alcohol on the island?

Yes! The island has a grocery store called the Maritime Market, which is open 7 days a week with varying hours. It offers a full selection of groceries, including beer, wine, and seltzers, but no liquor. If you want liquor, you'll have to buy it on the mainland and bring it with you. For those bringing groceries, we recommend packing them in large bins with secure lids, labeling them with your name, contact info, and the house you’re staying at. These will be loaded onto dollies with your luggage for the ferry ride, so securely taping the lids is a good idea!

Are there places to eat and shop?

Yes! The island has a variety of different restaurants and shops. Please visit the “Things to Do” page for more information and direct links.

Is BHI dog friendly?

Absolutely! Bald Head Island is a paradise for both humans and our furry friends. The island is very dog-friendly, and all beaches allow dogs to be off-leash. While many rental properties welcome pets, it's important to confirm with your specific lodging accommodation to ensure they allow dogs.

What should I know about golf carts?

We want everyone to have a fun weekend and enjoy themselves, but please keep a few things in mind. DUIs apply to golf carts, so do not drive if you're intoxicated. Open containers are prohibited on golf carts, and public safety will stop you if they notice. Also, finding your golf cart at the end of the night can be tricky if you don't remember where you parked or what it looks like. Most golf cart keys fit nearly any cart, so double-check that you're retrieving the right one. Lastly, make sure to charge your golf cart when not in use, especially overnight!

How do I plan my arrival & departure times?

It’s important to consider the ferry schedule when booking your flights. Avoid booking late-night arrivals, as you may miss the last ferry to BHI, and don’t schedule early morning departure flights since the earliest ferry isn’t until 7:30am. We recommend aiming for afternoon arrival flights and mid-day to afternoon departures. Also, most rental homes on Bald Head Island have a 3pm check-in and a 10am check-out, so plan accordingly!

Since this is a secluded island, are there any emergency services available in the event they are needed?

Yes, while Bald Head Island is a secluded destination, it does have emergency services available. There is a local fire department, police department (public safety), and medical facilities, including urgent care, to assist guests in case of emergencies.
