Bald Head Island is a serene and secluded destination located at the southernmost point of North Carolina, where the Cape Fear River meets the Atlantic Ocean. A short 20-minute ferry ride transports you from the ferry terminal at Deep Point Marina in Southport, NC to another world - the harbor at Bald Head Island.

Getting to Bald Head Island is half the fun! You will leave your worries (and cars) on the mainland and catch a 20-minute ferry from Deep Point Marina to BHI.

There are no cars on the island - only golf carts! If you plan on having a car, please plan on leaving your vehicle parked in a secure lot on the mainland at Deep Point Marina. Parking is $12/day. Please plan to arrive at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before your departure time to allow enough time to drop off your luggage, park your vehicle and get to the loading zone.

You'll need to reserve your spot on the ferry and it is recommended that you do this as soon as you have your housing confirmed. Ferries leave the mainland on the hour and leave the island on the half-hour, from 7 A.M - 10:30 P.M, most days. Upon arriving to the island, you will check in with the tram dispatcher to confirm your destination. You will then need to collect your luggage and make sure it makes it on your designated tram. All tram rides are included with the price of a ferry ticket. Since your rental golf cart will already be at your house, a tram is required for you to get between your accommodations on the island and the ferry terminal. You must make your tram reservations when you book your ferry tickets online. The tram reservations are located under the "Enhancements and Upgrades" tab when purchasing ferry tickets.

Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is the closest airport to the island and is approximately a 40-minute drive to Deep Point Marina. Taxis, Uber, and car service agencies are all available for transport from Wilmington International to Deep Point Marina.

Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is 1.5 hours away from the marina and offers the same ground transportation as Wilmington airport.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is a 2.5 hour drive to the marina but has a larger selection of flights to choose from at a lower price.

If you need transportation to and from the airport, we highly recommend using available car services through Oak Island - Southport Transportation. While taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts can take you from ILM/MYR to Deep Point Marina, we do not recommend relying on these services for departures from Deep Point Marina. It is very unlikely that you will be able to confirm an Uber or Lyft driver in Southport, where the marina is located.

When booking flights, we kindly ask guests flying in to consider the ferry schedule. We recommend arriving no later than 8 PM to ensure you have ample time to catch the ferry. For departure flights, please schedule them no earlier than 10:30 AM, allowing enough time for both the ferry ride and the drive to the airport.

While most rental homes come with golf carts for your use during your stay, you can also rent additional golf carts and bikes once you are on the island. Golf carts can be rented by the day from Cary Cart Company, with prices ranging from $85 to $120 per day, depending on the size of the cart. Please note that all golf carts must be returned by closing time, typically around 4 PM or 5 PM. If you return a cart after closing, you will be charged double the rental fee, so it's advisable to rent for two days if you plan to use the cart past closing hours. The Cary Cart Company is conveniently located within walking distance from the ferry terminal, and we recommend making advance reservations.

Bald Head Island offers a unique experience, with no hotels but hundreds of vacation rental homes available through various agencies. Most rentals require a 2-3 night minimum, and options like VRBO and Airbnb are also available. Each home includes at least one golf cart, with larger properties often providing multiple carts.
